How to Qualify for Medicaid in Indiana
The Medicaid program provides health care assistance to the needy. The states administer Medicaid, subject to federal laws, regulations and oversight. Medicaid eligibility varies from state to state.Indiana Medicaid eligibility rules are particularly stringent and focus primarily on delivering care to the blind and disabled, pregnant mothers and families, the elderly and developmentally delayed individuals. Fees for Indiana Medicaid services are based on family income, with some individuals and families receiving health care at no cost.

Go to the "Apply for or Manage Benefits" page at the Family & Social Services Administration website at IN.gov. Select your county from the list. The link to the page is in the Resources at the end of this article.

Select the "Screening Tool" from the online options. Navigate to the online questionnaire by selecting "Start."

Answer the questions about monthly household income, cash on hand, migrant worker status, food stamp benefit eligibility and utility expenses.
Click "Next."

Enter your first and last name, birth date, gender and household size.
Click "Next."

Answer the separate set of questions requested for each member of the household. For questions requiring a "yes" or "no" response, click each box for which the answer to the question is "yes" so that a check mark appears.
After entering information for each household member, review the response summary and, if it is correct, click "Next." Click the appropriate relationship between household members from the pull-down menu and click "Next."

Fill out information on resources for each household member by clicking "add resource," selecting the type of resource from the pull-down menu, entering the value of the asset and clicking "save resource."
Follow the same process for income, unearned income, household expenses and medical expenses.

Elect to apply for benefits online after the online screening tool processes the information and develops a summary of benefits for which you may qualify, including Medicaid. You will see this option at the bottom of the summary screen.
