Can your doctor turn you in for shopping?

Doctors are required by law to protect patient confidentiality. This means that they are not allowed to share any information about your medical condition with anyone, including the police, without your consent. So if you are shopping, your doctor cannot turn you in. However, if you are caught shoplifting, the store may press charges against you. In this case, your doctor may be called to testify about your medical condition if it is relevant to the case.
