How do I Bill for a 48 Hour Holter?
Holter monitors normally are billed for 24 hours. However, it is possible to bill for a 48-hour monitor and receive reimbursement if the facility bills correctly and includes separate dates of service, as well as documented medical necessity showing that the 48-hour monitor was essential to the patient's care.Instructions

1
Bill for hookup, scanning and report using cpt (current procedural terminology) code 93230 with 1 unit for the first date of service.
-
2
Use CPT code 93232 when billing for the second date of service, also using 1 unit. It is important to differentiate between the two dates by using the two different cpt codes, as the second date of service may only be billed for scanning and report.

Medical necessity must be clearly documented and should be submitted with the claim to avoid possible denial or request for additional information from the insurance company, thus holding up timely reimbursement.
-
4
Submit the claim to the insurance company with the correct billing and documentation.
