How to Donate a Child's Wheelchair in Texas
Many families with disabled children find it hard to balance a traditional family budget with medical supplies, doctor visits, and treatment programs. Wheelchairs are an excellent example of an expensive but necessary item for some children, and finding a way to pay for one can cause stress and frustration for a family. If you have a child's wheelchair that you no longer need or would like to purchase one as a donation, you can reach a disabled family through several charity organizations.Instructions

1
Unfold the wheelchair and inspect it to ensure it works correctly and is in good shape. Most charities that accept wheelchairs have a base standard for what they will take. A chair should be in good condition, the seat clean and free of tears, and less than five years old.

2
Locate a charity in your area that accepts wheelchairs. Goodwill and the Salvation Army are national companies with donation centers in most Texas cities and will readily accept wheelchairs in good condition.
-
3
Drop the wheelchair off at one of the charity locations or, depending on where you are in Texas, at a charity that specializes in medical equipment, like MediSend International (Dallas), Medical Bridges Inc. (Houston), and Project C.U.R.E. (Houston/Austin).

4
Pack your wheelchair up and send it to a charity that deals specifically in medical supplies such as Friends of Disabled Adults and Children or Chariots of Hope. This is a good option if you don't live close enough to a donation center to make an in-person drop; however, you will be able to send only collapsible chairs. Measure your wheelchair and check out the "Parcel Weight Restrictions" under Resources to determine if this is an option.
