Where is the umbilical area?

The umbilical area, also known as the navel or belly button, is the site of attachment of the umbilical cord to the fetus during pregnancy. It is located on the anterior abdominal wall, in the midline, approximately halfway between the pubic bone and the xiphoid process of the sternum. The umbilical area is surrounded by the umbilical ring, which is formed by the aponeuroses of the abdominal muscles and the linea alba. The umbilical cord is composed of two arteries and one vein that carry oxygenated blood and nutrients from the placenta to the fetus, and deoxygenated blood and waste products away from the fetus. After birth, the umbilical cord is clamped and cut, leaving a small remnant called the umbilical stump, which eventually dries up and falls off, leaving the navel or belly button.
