Medicare is the U.S. government's health care plan for persons aged 65 or older or are eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance. Income has less to do with eligibility for Medicare benefits than the type of disability requiring medical treatment.-
Income Guidelines

Medicare is offered, free of charge, to persons aged 65 or older or persons eligible for SSDI. Persons under the age of 65 eligible for Medicare must suffer from a debilitating disease such as Lou Gehrig's or end-stage renal disease.
Medicare Part A

Medicare Part A fully pays a hospital for inpatient care for eligible persons.
Medicare Part B

The Part B portion of Medicare provides for medically necessary care such as doctor's visits or home health services. There is a monthly premium of $110.50, which is deducted from Social Security, Railroad Retirement or Civil Service Retirement benefits.
Medicare Part C

Medicare Part D

Medicare Part D is the portion of Medicare that pays for prescriptions. Medicare Part D is provided through public and private health agencies.
