How to Check Medicare Numbers
Medicare is a federally administered social insurance for individuals over 65 and others who meet specified criteria. The coverage is made up of four parts. Part A is for hospitalization coverage and Part B is medical coverage. Part C is a Medicare Advantage Plan where the Medicare benefits are administered by individual insurance companies. In most cases, these companies will handle all parts of your Medicare coverage. Part D of your Medicare plan covers your prescription drug benefits. In order to utilize your coverage and have Medicare pay your claims, you need the correct Medicare number for billing purposes.Things You'll Need

Call 1-800-633-4227 (1-800-MEDICARE). Enter your medicare identification number which is your nine digit Social Security number by dialing it into the keypad. You will then be prompted to speak the letter part of your identification number and verify the number you entered is correct.

Enter your date of birth by speaking it or by using the keypad in a two digit month, two digit day, four digit year format (xx-xx-xxxx). On the main menu you will have the option to go over billing, claims, as well as other options. Using the automated system ask to speak to a representative to confirm your Medicare number and any pertinent information. If you do not have all the necessary information a representative will be able to further assist you. If you have other numbers to confirm, you can go over this information during the same phone call.

Confirm whether you have a Medicare Advantage Plan. The phone number to these private insurance companies is usually on the back of your insurance card. Call the company to confirm any additional identification numbers you may have associated with your account.

Go to socialsecurity.gov to request a replacement card if you have lost your Medicare card. Click on the tab "Medicare"

Click on "replace your lost, stolen, or damaged Medicare card." Follow the instructions. A new card will be sent to you within 30 days.

Create an account on mymedicare.gov to manage your personal account and view services and benefits.
