How to Apply for Medicare Part D Benefits

Medicare prescription drug coverage is also known as Medicare Part D and is available to anyone that receives Medicare benefits. It is recommended by the federal government to enroll in a Part D plan to avoid high out-of-pocket expenses associated with prescription drugs. In order to receive prescription drug benefits, you must enroll in a Part D plan, which is only offered through private entities. Two types of Part D plans are available -- Medicare Prescription Drug Plans or Medicare Advantage Plans such as an HMO or PPO. Medicare Prescription Drug plans require Medicare Part A and/or B, while the Medicare Advantage Plans require both Medicare Part A and Part B.
