Florida Medicare & Part B

Florida Social Security recipients are automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A hospital insurance at no charge. They are also eligible for Medicare Part B medical insurance, but they must pay a monthly premium.
  1. Part B Coverage

    • Medicare Part B covers routine medical care such as doctor's visits, lab tests and radiology services. It includes coverage for preventative screenings such as mammograms, glaucoma tests, bone mass measurements and colonoscopies. It covers only about 75 percent of the costs. The insured is responsible for the balance.

    Medigap Coverage

    • A Medigap supplemental policy covers charges that fall into gaps not covered by Medicare, such as deductibles, copayments and costs not covered by Part B. Medigap policies are offered by private insurance companies, which pay premiums to providers directly. The government regulates the benefits required in Florida policies.

    Medicare Advantage

    • Medicare Advantage is private health insurance, usually an HMO or PPO, offered by companies contracted and regulated by Medicare. It provides Medicare part A and B coverage. Some policies include Part D prescription coverage. Medicare Advantage plans replace Part B supplemental policies.
