How to Apply for Coventry Medicare Supplement Insurance

Coventry Health Care is Medicare approved to offer a Medicare Advantage program. The original Medicare often does not pay all of your medical needs since they pay 80 percent and you pay 20 percent. Medicare Advantage works very much like an HMO; you pay the co-pay when you visit a doctor and in most instances nothing more. Under Medicare Advantage, you still have Medicare but Coventry manages it since they will issue you an insurance card to carry and present to your doctors. If you have the original Medicare Part A and B, you qualify for the Medicare Advantage.

Visit the Coventry Health Care website first because there is a lot of information there about what they offer under their Medicare Advantage Plan. You can request information to be sent to you through the US mail if you would rather read everything in a hard copy instead of online. To request information, click on the Request Information button on the right hand side of the page and fill in the form.

Familiarize yourself with the Coventry website and terminology. You may enroll in the Advantage program by clicking on the Enroll Now tab at the upper right hand corner of the Coventry Medicare home page. Enter your zip code and you will see the plans available to you.

Consider calling Coventry directly if you are uncomfortable with the online form or you have any questions. They are available seven days a week. It is best to have your questions answered before completing something that you are unsure of or if you are not comfortable filling out the online forms. Click on the Contact Us tab at the top of the page for the number.

Apply for Medicare Advantage during the open enrollment period, which is normally the last six weeks of the year. If you do not enroll during this time, you will have to wait till the following year. Likewise, if you decide you do not like the Medicare Advantage, you can switch back to the original Medicare, but it has to be during open enrollment.

Analyze the cost of Coventry Medicare Advantage. Depending on the area where you live, it may be completely free, or it can come with an additional premium, which you would pay to Coventry each month.
