How to Use Alliance Patient Lift Model 1902

The Alliance Patient Lift Model 1902 is a mechanical device designed to lift a person and transfer him to or from a bed or chair, or on and off the toilet. It is a battery-powered unit designed to safely transfer a person weighing up to 400 pounds. This type of lift device is frequently used in nursing homes or hospitals.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Battery Check" button and make sure that more than one indicator light in the row is lighted before operating the lift. If only one indicator light is on, the battery must be charged before use.

    • 2

Prepare the patient for a transfer from bed to chair by rolling her onto her side. Roll up half of the transfer sling while making sure the sling handles remain on the outside surface (facing away from the patient). Lay the rolled part of the sling next to the patient's spine, using the commode (toilet) opening of the sling as a guide for positioning. Roll the patient onto her opposite side while guiding her up and over the rolled portion of the sling. Unroll the sling and roll the patient onto her back. The sling should now be positioned fully under the patient. Bring the leg flaps of the sling up and around the patient's thighs.

    • 3

Wheel the lift over to the patient's bed, widen the base and position the base of the lift under the patient's bed. Secure the brakes on the wheels of the lift.

    • 4

Position the spreader bar (the part of the lift hanging above the patient) over the patient's chest. Hook the loops of the sling to the hooks at the four corners of the spreader bar. Use color coordinated loops on all sides in the position that is comfortable for the patient.

    • 5

Unlock the brakes and press the "Up" button on the control device until the patient is completely off the bed surface. Close the base of the lift and slowly wheel the patient to the toilet or chair. Once he is correctly aligned, press the "Down" button and lower the patient into the chair.

    • 6

Unhook the loops of the sling from the machine. If you can, leave the sling positioned under the patient for a later transfer back into the bed.
