Qualifications

A person can also be qualified for nursing home admission if they get an order from a doctor who is licensed in Louisiana. A screening is required for admission as well. The individual must be screened for a history of treatment of mental illness and developmental disabilities.

Financial Eligibility

• An individual must be financially eligible to be admitted to a Louisiana nursing home. An individual's income must be $2,022 or less a month to be eligible for admission. A couple's income must be $4,044 or less a month, to be eligible for admission to a nursing home. An individual can have resources up to $2,000 to be eligible, while a couple can have resources up to $3,000. These resources can be savings, a money market account or stocks.

Medically Needy Program

• The Medically Needy Program helps individuals get into a nursing home in Louisiana if they are not eligible financially. In order to get into the Medically Needy Program, the individual's income must be lower than the Medicaid rate for the nursing home of choice. An individual can be certified for the program on a month-to-month basis, depending on their case. However, the individual's income must be lower than the Medically Needy Income Eligibility Standard. Interested parties can determine their eligibility with the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.
