What is an apprentice nurse?

An apprentice nurse is an individual who is enrolled in an apprenticeship program that combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction to prepare for a career as a registered nurse (RN). Apprenticeships in nursing typically last for two years and include both paid work experience in a healthcare setting and academic coursework. During the program, apprentices gain hands-on experience working with patients, nurses, and other healthcare professionals while learning about topics such as patient care, medical terminology, pharmacology, and nursing ethics. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, participants may be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) to become licensed RNs. Nurse apprentice programs provide a pathway to nursing careers for those seeking an alternative route to traditional nursing education.
