What is looked at for a certificate of occupancy Dearborn Heights Michigan?

The City of Dearborn Heights requires a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) for all new construction, additions, or alterations to existing buildings. The CO verifies that the building complies with all applicable codes and ordinances and is safe for occupancy.

To obtain a CO, the following must be submitted to the Building Department:

* A completed CO application form

* Two sets of plans and specifications for the project

* A certificate of insurance

* Payment of all applicable fees

Once the application and required documentation have been submitted, the Building Department will conduct an inspection of the building. If the building passes inspection, a CO will be issued.

The following items are commonly inspected during a CO inspection:

* Structural stability

* Fire safety

* Electrical safety

* Plumbing safety

* Mechanical safety

* Accessibility

* Energy efficiency

If the building does not pass inspection, the owner will be required to make the necessary corrections and resubmit the application.

A CO is valid for one year. After one year, the owner must apply for a new CO.
