What does plms mean?

Periodic leg movement syndrome (PLMS) is a condition that causes involuntary leg movements during sleep. These movements can range from small jerks to larger, more violent kicks. They can occur throughout the night and can interfere with sleep.

PLMS is often associated with other conditions, such as restless legs syndrome (RLS), iron deficiency, and kidney disease. It can also be a side effect of certain medications.

Symptoms of PLMS can include:

* Involuntary leg movements during sleep

* Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep

* Waking up feeling tired or unrefreshed

* Pain or discomfort in the legs

* Increased daytime sleepiness

* Difficulty concentrating

* Irritability

PLMS can be diagnosed with a sleep study. During a sleep study, you will be monitored overnight to record your sleep patterns and leg movements.

Treatment for PLMS may include:

* Lifestyle changes, such as avoiding caffeine and alcohol before bed, and getting regular exercise

* Medications, such as dopamine agonists, anticonvulsants, and opioids

* Physical therapy

* Surgery, in severe cases

If you think you may have PLMS, talk to your doctor.
