How to Face Your Fear of a Really Tall Roller Coaster

Everyone has something that he or she is afraid of, but this can become a problem when fears get in the way of living your life the way you want to. Acrophobia, or a fear of heights, is a common phobia that causes a person to be irrationally scared of being up high. For someone with acrophobia, the idea of riding a tall roller coaster can be terrifying, even though there is no reason to to be worried. Fortunately, in many cases, you can make strides to overcome your fear of heights.

Instructions

    • 1

Ride a smaller roller coaster or ride that doesn't make you as afraid. This will get you used to the idea of riding a roller coaster and can eventually prep you for taller heights. Slowly work your way up to bigger, scarier rides, but don't rush yourself.

    • 2

Know what to expect from the tall roller coaster you want to ride. You don't want to be shocked before or while riding, and understanding the layout of the coaster can help you prepare for the experience. Ask others about the ride, or talk to an employee at the amusement park to get information.

    • 3

Sit anywhere on the tall coaster except the front. This is the scariest seat on the coaster, so if you are feeling nervous, choose another place to sit. Remember to breathe while on the ride. If you feel overwhelmed, close your eyes and do your best to relax.
