How to Overcome the Fear of Fighting
There are times when people may find themselves in a position where defending themselves from an aggressive attack is necessary, whether that attack is physical or verbal in nature. Some people with an adverse reaction to conflict may shy away from defending themselves, which can develop into a full-on fear that can cause them to be victims of abuse. Overcoming that fear is a step in the right direction.Instructions

Enroll in a boxing or martial arts class such as aikido, karate, kickboxing or kung fu. Information can be found in your local phone directory on where to go, and you can call to ask how much classes cost. Through instruction and sparring, learning how to defend one's self and properly strike will increase your confidence level and better prepare you to remain calm and help quell your fear response when fighting is inevitable.

2
Join a group of people with the same fear. Usually information on such self-help groups can be found through online searches in your area or by contacting local counseling centers, civic groups or the offices of licensed therapists that may sponsor these groups.

Consult with friends or family members who recognize your fear and want to help you overcome it. Through role playing certain situations in which the friend or family member acts as an aggressor, you'll be able to play through the confrontation and gradually be able to develop the necessary skills to overcome your natural fear response.
