There are 14 different anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders involve problems with excessive anxiety and worry. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is the anxiety disorder that is characterized by the presence of obsessions.-
What is an Obsession?

An obsession is a persistent idea or image that continually pushes its way into your thoughts. The thought causes a great deal of anxiety.
Obsessive Thoughts

If you have obsessive-compulsive disorder, you might be afraid of germs, or you might think that you have run someone over with your car when there is no reason to think so. The obsessive thoughts in OCD are irrational.
What are Compulsions?

In order to try and quell your anxiety, you may have certain actions that you do repeatedly like constant hand washing, or looking in the rear-view mirror. You may repeat words or prayers in your mind in a certain way. These activities are called compulsions.
OCD and Daily Life

The obsessions and compulsions interfere with daily life and can cause a great deal of distress. You may feel like you do not have control. You may or may not realize that the thoughts and behaviors are unreasonable.
Treatment for OCD

Obsessive compulsive disorder can be successfully treated with medication and specialized treatment programs. There are inpatient and outpatient programs. It's best to seek an expert in obsessive-compulsive disorder treatment.
