Side Effects of Adivan

Ativan is a prescription medication that is used for the treatment of anxiety disorders. It is classified as a benzodiazepine and enhances a chemical in the brain to provide a calming, relaxed effect. However, there are some unpleasant side effects that are possible when taking Ativan.

  1. Common Side Effects

    • The most common side effects that Ativan users might experience are not usually considered serious. These side effects are drowsiness, clumsiness, dizziness, unsteadiness, feeling lightheaded, weakness and headache. These effects generally fade quickly, but if they are persistent or intensify, you should notify your physician.

    Serious Side Effects

    • Though relatively rare, serious side effects of Ativan also exist. These include loss of memory, hallucinations, insomnia, and mental or mood changes, such as depression, suicidal thoughts, agitation, rage, hostility, aggression, anxiety, nervousness and excitation.     Rare Side Effects

    • There are also some rare side effects of Ativan. They include problems with orgasm, hair loss, nausea, changes in sex drive (either increase or decrease), erectile dysfunction, slightly lowered blood pressure, vertigo, constipation, changes in vision and slurred communication.     Allergic Reactions
