Anxiety is a disorder in which an individual experiences an excessive amount of fear and worry. In addition to disrupting focus and lowering the quality of life for the sufferer, those with anxiety disorder can develop many illnesses.
  1. Initial Symptoms

    • Those who suffer from anxiety can experience an array of physical symptoms. These symptoms include tension, headaches, sweating, nausea and fatigue.

    Depression

    • Anxiety can be frustrating and prevent individuals from participating in activities they want to participate in. Depression often occurs as a result of these frustrations.

    Substance Abuse

    • Individuals that worry excessively may begin to self-medicate in order to reduce anxiety symptoms. This can lead to addictions such as alcoholism.

    Physical Damage

    • Anxiety can be harmful to the digestive system. The digestive system is often slowed down when an individual has an anxiety attack. The resulting slowdown can lead to stomach ulcers.

    False Heart Attacks

    • Those suffering from a panic attack sometimes experience tightness in the chest. This can be misinterpreted as a heart attack.
