How to Find Group Therapy for PTSD
Instructions

-
1
Ask your therapist for a referral to a PTSD support group. He will help you find the right group for your particular situation. Group therapy can be a significant addition to individual therapy.
-
2
Check with the closest veteran's hospital if you have been in the military. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs offers ongoing support groups, in hospitals and in the community, for those who have experienced trauma in military conflicts.
-
3
Call local churches. Many offer free support groups for different issues. Most do not require you to be a member of the church to attend.
-
4
Talk to friends who may be able to recommend therapy groups. There's no shame in having PTSD. You may be surprised at the number of people you know who have some experience with group therapy.
-
5
Search a national registry. The American Group Psychotherapy Association maintains a database of therapists who have received special training in group therapy.
