How to Overcome the Fear of Losing a Loved One

Fear of death is a natural human emotion. For some of us, those fears can overtake us and we can't shake the possibility of losing a loved one, regardless of how healthy they appear to be. It is important to overcome those fears so that you can live your daily life in peace and free from needless worry.

Instructions

    • 1

Realize that death is an inevitable part of life. Everyone, including you, dies at some point. Some of us spend only a few years on earth while others spend nearly a century. The end result of life is always the same. You must first accept that death is a natural part of life and everyone faces it as some point.

    • 2

Spend more time with your loved ones. Show them how much you care and how much you value having them in your life. None of us knows when our time is up. Spend the time you have left, whether it is 5 or 50 years, with your family and friends. When the day comes that you actually have to deal with losing a loved one, the more good memories you have of that person, the better you'll be able to handle your grief.

    • 3

Keep a journal and write down all your thoughts at the end of each day. Keeping your fears bottled up inside allows them to slowly take control of your thoughts. If you express those thoughts on a regular basis, you'll be better able to understand them and work through them.

    • 4

Develop a daily affirmation for yourself in which you vow to make this day the best of your life. Read inspirational books and stories from those who have learned the value of life and how to live every day to the fullest.

    • 5

Overcome your fear of losing a loved one by simply enjoying your life each day. Remaining in fear of death reduces your quality of life and no one wants to live a life of fear. Resolve to enjoy each day you have with family and friends and focus on creating good memories that last forever.
