Can bipolar 2 turn into 1?

While bipolar 2 disorder and bipolar 1 disorder are both characterized by episodes of mania or hypomania, there are key differences between the two conditions. Bipolar 2 disorder is characterized by at least one hypomanic episode and one major depressive episode, while bipolar 1 disorder is characterized by at least one manic episode in addition to major depressive episodes. Hypomanic episodes are milder than manic episodes and do not cause as much impairment in functioning.

There is currently no cure for bipolar disorder, but it can be managed with medication, psychotherapy, and lifestyle changes. Although some people experience occasional symptoms between episodes, most go into complete remission, especially under proper treatments. Bipolar 2 typically doesn't progress into bipolar 1.
