How to Rechannel My Focus

Staying focused and keeping yourself on task is not as easy at it seems. Cell phones, email, television, other people and even your thoughts can distract you and cause a loss of focus. Rechanneling your energy and focus takes time, patience and the ability to use your mind to change your behaviors. Once you figure out how to successfully rechannel your focus for the first time, you will find subsequent times to be easier and take less energy.

Instructions

    • 1

Stop your activity or thinking process. Find a quiet place to sit down and clear your mind. This could be your bedroom, a quiet park or an empty corner in a library.

    • 2

Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Breathe in deeply to fill your lungs, hold it for a second and exhale. The act of breathing in and out will help to calm you and clear your mind.

    • 3

Imagine what you want to begin focusing on. Picture yourself achieving the goal, performing the activity or changing the relationship. Focus on the actions you are performing as well as the end result.

    • 4

Create a mantra or saying to help rechannel your energy into the new task or focus. Keep the phrase simple and on target with what you are trying to accomplish.

    • 5

Repeat Steps 2, 3 and 4 on a daily basis until you feel comfortable with the changes you need to make. You can repeat these steps when you feel yourself becoming distracted or losing focus as well.
