Type of Birth Control Pill with No Depression

While there is no birth control pill proven to cure depression, if you suffer from symptoms of depression in the days leading up to your period, you may want to look into taking the birth control pill known as YAZ. The makers of YAZ claim that taking this oral contraceptive may help decrease some symptoms of PMDD, a condition in which syptoms of depression can play a key role.

  1. Identification

    • PMDD (Pre-Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder) commonly occurs one to two weeks before a woman's menstrual period. Sufferers of PMDD commonly experience bouts of depression, anger, anxiety and irritability.

    Considerations

    • It may take at least two to three months of using YAZ before you notice a reduction of depression symptoms before your period.

    Misconceptions

    • Be aware that YAZ is not intended for the treatment of the medical condition known as depression, only the “markedly depressed moods” that are associated with PMDD, according to YAZ's website.
