1
Watch funny movies. If you are close enough to the depressed person to watch movies with him, try putting on some extremely funny movies. Try to locate Charlie Chaplin movies because they are known to cause outbursts of laughter. You want to try to watch movies that will cause actual laughter because laughing releases endorphins in the brain that can ease depression and make the sufferer feel better. If your friend refuses to watch a movie, try to find a hilarious book to read to him out loud. Any way that can make him laugh will help break through the cloud of depression.

Offer dark chocolate. Dark chocolate also releases endorphins in the brain, which elevates the mood and lifts the spirits. Try to find a chocolate that is at least 60% cocoa so that it can provide the most benefit to the person suffering from depression. You can find flavored and specialty chocolates online or at department stores.

Pray with power. Prayer is known to be healing, regardless of what faith it comes from. Pray as much as you can and as deeply as you can, focusing on seeing your friend happy, laughing and healthy. Try to avoid seeing images of your friend sad or depressed, or worse. Only focus on what you want to see happening to your friend who is suffering from depression, and really try to make that image stick in your mind. Pray and visualize as often as you can.

Call for help. If your depressed friend seems unreachable and you are afraid that he may hurt himself, call for help. There are many suicide hot lines available in most areas that can help you get your friend to a mental support facility. If you have trouble locating one of these hot lines, call 911. It is better to call for help when you are unsure if it is needed than to regret not having called.
