When are you most likely to suffer with depression?
Depression can affect people of all ages, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds, but there are certain risk factors that can make someone more likely to develop depression. These risk factors include:
- Personal or family history of depression
- Major life stressors such as divorce, job loss, or the death of a loved one
- Chronic medical conditions, such as cancer, heart disease, or diabetes
- Certain medications, such as steroids, beta-blockers, and antihistamines
- Substance abuse or dependence
- Sleep deprivation
- Obesity
It's important to note that having one or more of these risk factors does not mean that you will definitely develop depression, but it does mean that you may be more vulnerable to the condition. If you are experiencing symptoms of depression, it's important to talk to a mental health professional for diagnosis and treatment.
