How to Elevate Mood

There are times when some of us need a mood lift. Rainy days and the start of a new workweek are just two of the times when many people feel the need to elevate their mood. If you’re feeling like you want to reach inside yourself and pull out a smile or two, do it. With a little self-help, you should be able to send those blues on their not-so-merry way. The following steps will help you turn your frown into a smile before you know it.

Instructions

    • 1

Eat Brazil nuts, which are rich in serotonin. Other foods to consume are foods with a high Omega-3 fatty acid content and antioxidant foods.

    • 2

Listen to what you like to hear. Music is a good remedy for the blues, provided it’s the kind of music you enjoy. If you’re away from your loved one, call that person on the phone. If you can’t call him or her, listen to a recording of that person’s voice. Hearing the voice of someone you love will bring you joy.

    • 3

Do some physical exercise. When you dance or exercise, endorphin release is enhanced. As a result, you feel happier. Sex is another activity to engage in when you want to feel good.

    • 4

Watch a funny movie or comedy show. Laughing will make you forget what it was you felt melancholy about. Laughing is good for the immune system too.

    • 5

Look for things that make you smile. Watching children at play or looking at photographs works for some people. Open your eyes and look for whatever you find to be a beautiful sight.

    • 6

Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buy yourself a colorful and fragrant bouquet to delight your senses. If you’ve had your eye on a new pair of shoes, now’s the time to consider purchasing them. Reading an uplifting book may also put you in a better mood.
