Transitional Living for Young Adults in Atlanta, GA

Transitional living facilities aim to keep at-risk young adults from falling into the trap of homelessness and drug and alcohol abuse. For those young adults without a strong familial support system, transitional living facilities can keep them on track to a happy and successful life. Transitional living facilities promote education, job skills and a pathway to becoming a self-sufficient adult.
  1. Achor Center, Inc.

    • The Achor Center Inc. (achorcenter.org) has been providing services to homeless women and children for over twenty years. In that time, they have assisted more than 6,000 people. Achor Center's transitional living facilities mimic independent living. The staff works with each resident to develop a personalized plan to better his situation including GED preparation, job skills and searching training and parenting education. The children of the residents are also provided with homework help, etiquette lessons and age appropriate entertainment.

    Devereux

    • Devereux (devereux.org) Georgia, located in Kennesaw, is a psychiatric residential treatment facility located just 26 miles from Atlanta. Devereux's Positive Living Using Supports, or PLUS, program offers transitional living for six young men aged 17 to 22 who have a mental illness and would otherwise be susceptible to homelessness. In addition to providing round the clock staff, the PLUS program also provides education on hygiene, nutrition, money management, employment, household tasks and relationships.

    Young Adult Guidance Center, Inc.

    • The Young Adult Guidance Center (yagc.net), or YAGC, in Atlanta offers a residential and outreach program for at-risk young men, ages 16-21. In order to receive transitional housing through YAGC, participants in the program must be employed, attending a post high school education program, have followed the rules and regulations set forth by YAGC, be living on a budget funded by their earnings as well as have a bank account in which to save their money. A typical stay in transitional housing is two to three months.

    Christian City

    • Christian City (christiancity.org), located in Union City, is just 19 miles from Atlanta. The Christian City transitional living program is for young adults who were part of their children's village. The children's village is for children ages 5 to 17. After the age of 17 and once the young adult has completed high school or received her GED while residing in the children's village, she moves to the transitional living program where she receives financial help with her post high school education, a temporary apartment on the Christian City campus and assistance and guidance on major life decisions.
