Psychological Effects on the Body

Your psychological state is directly connected to your physical body, causing noticeable changes in your physical condition as a result of specific emotional and psychological stimulants. Your physical body can face long-term damage and pain resulting from severe psychological conditions that require extensive treatment to counteract. Daily psychological conditions, such as stress, have similar repercussions if you do not have some method of addressing the issue daily.
  1. Stress

    • Emotionally or physically challenging situations result in increased stress levels. Additionally, a prolonged period of inactivity or significant alterations in your normal daily life increases your stress. Psychological stress causes numerous problematic symptoms in the human body. These include headaches, muscle pain, upset stomach and chest pain. Physical fatigue and alterations in a person's sex drive also occur as a result of increased stress levels. Reduce your stress by incorporating regular physical activity and relaxation techniques into your normal schedule.

    Depression

    • Depression and pain are closely related to physiological functions in your body. Extended periods of either lead to the other. Long-term depression causes severe strain on your body, leading to extended periods of pain including headaches, chest pain and stomach pain. Depression also causes extended periods of lethargy, which causes your body to shut down and stop many normal daily functions. Depression is treatable through long-term counseling and medicine, which help you address the causes of your condition and eliminate its deleterious effects on your body.

    Emotion

    • Your emotions are directly linked to your physical body. This includes negative emotions such as worry and feelings of loss and regret as well as positive feelings of love and happiness. Long-term emotional problems lead to chronic pain in your body, including stomach pain, severe weight alterations and insomnia. Positive emotions have favorable effects on your body that include an alleviation of pain and healthier sleeping patterns. Additionally, emotional problems over a long period of time reduce your immune system and leave you more vulnerable to illnesses.

    Excitement

    • Feelings of excitement are your body's natural response to immediate situations, such as watching a scary movie, being in a terrifying situation or finding yourself in a dangerous predicament. Excitement increases your heart rate, causes perspiration and gives you a rush of adrenaline. The after effects of these conditions include fatigue and a heightened sense of self-awareness. The overall effects of excitement relate directly to the severity of the excitement, duration of excitement and the after-effects of the situation.
