How to Cure a Bad Mood

Bad moods affect many people from time to time. Negative feelings can be caused by difficult life changes, troubling relationships, mental illness or simply having a bad day. Coping with bad moods in a positive fashion will help you to treat it quickly, get on with your life and feel happy again.

      Think positive thoughts instead of dwelling on negative ideas. If you are upset about a certain situation, try to find positive aspects of the situation or problem solve in ways that will help you to feel good about yourself.

      Listen to your favorite singer or band and sing along loudly. Singing can help to distract your mind and cheery music can lift your spirits.

      Go on a walk or hike and use the time to think more clearly about your problems. Walking can be relaxing and help to ease your mind better than remaining still while feeling depressed.

      Find something else to focus on until you are able to feel happier. For example, read a book or talk with a friend about different topics than what you're upset about.

      Take a short nap or go to bed early. Sometimes, not getting enough sleep can contribute to feelings of depression.
