What Is Theoretical Orientation in Research Articles?

Theoretical orientation is normally used in psychology and related areas such as psychotherapy and counseling. A doctor's theoretical orientation, for example, explains which model of psychology he is using as the basis for his work.

An author or researcher's theoretical orientation will inform readers about which branch or theory of psychology the paper uses as its foundation. This allows for an improved ability to evaluate the research.
