Think positive thoughts. Moving is not always a bad thing. Leaving home can mean new adventures and new friends. If your move is to college, this means that a better future and more knowledge are on the way. For any other reason it can still be something good. It is all in how the person perceives it. If leaving home is thought of something negative, then the experience just may be a bad one.

Sign up on the social networking sites. These sites are a great way to stay in touch with friends and family you cannot see in person daily. With these sites you can view photos, chat and post things on each other's walls.

Explore your new location. It is important to get out get to know the area. Staying busy will help keep your mind off what you miss from home. Getting out will also bring about a better chance to meet new people and make new friends.

Call home, often. If it all starts to feel overwhelming, just phone home for some words of comfort, praise or motivation. If this is the first time you are living alone, do not hesitate to call friends and family whenever you need help.

Take safety precautions when moving to a new place. If it is to a big city, carry pepper spray. When moving into a new apartment be sure to check the fire alarms to make sure that they are working. Have a fire extinguisher on hand. Taking such precautions will provide comfort and confidence. You'll feel safer and possibly less anxious.
