How to Critique a Psychology Article

After reading through a psychology article for your college classes, you may be required to write a critique about it. In this case, this means you study the article and criticize the text you read. Though you can discuss which parts of the article you enjoyed reading the most, the purpose of a critique is to discuss what parts were lacking and could have used improvement.

Instructions

    • 1

Read through the article again, making note of its main purpose and what the study concluded. Respectively, this should be noted in the first and final paragraph of the article.

    • 2

Examine what the study of the article found, followed by how the study was conducted, and then read the conclusion. On a separate piece of paper, outline problems the researcher mentioned, along with its potential relevance.

    • 3

Summarize the article. Write whether you believe that the study and its results were accurate. The Blinn College Division of Social Sciences reports that you should write the critique in two separate parts: The first portion discusses the study at hand while the other portion remains reflective.
