How to Find Out If Someone Has Psychiatric Problems

Sometimes people have psychiatric issues that we are unaware of. You may notice that someone is acting peculiar or out of character. Working or living with someone with psychiatric problems may be dangerous and you need to look for signs to provide help. If you notice that a person is behaving erratically, try to observe her behavior closer and look for more signs of a psychiatric issue.

      Watch to see if the person gets easily confused. He may have difficulty understanding simple instructions or directions.

      Check to see if the person is constantly late or frequently absent if you work with her. Someone with psychiatric problems may not feel like going to work or doing anything at all. She will sometimes intentionally oversleep and other times she may simply just not show up.

      See if this person is experiencing constant mood swings and irritation. This is a sign that he may be experiencing depression or bipolar disorder. Depending on how severe the moodiness is, he may even talk about suicide or death.

      See if the person is anxious or paranoid. People with mental illnesses and psychiatric problems will be paranoid at times and have delusions. He may believe that other people can hear his thoughts, or that he's being watched. This person may even experience hallucinations.

      Inform the person about the issues. The person with the issues may deny that she has them or that anything is wrong with her.
