Ways to Help With Anger

Everyone gets angry sometimes. It can even be a healthy emotion. They key is learning to manage it. However, if you feel controlled by anger, then it is detrimental to your emotional and physical health. Whether it's before you get angry, during an angry moment or after feeling angry, there are ways to make your anger easier to manage.
  1. Laugh

    • Use humor to help anger pass. Laughter can be the best medicine. If you are currently feeling angry and out of control, find something funny to watch or listen to. Perhaps it's a good idea to keep two or three of your favorite comedy movies on stand-by to use for just this purpose. If you are having difficulty getting anger to pass, watch a funny comedy show.

    Let It Out

    • It's OK to express the anger and let it out, preferably in private so that you don't hurt anyone else or upset them. Go into a room in your house, grab a pillow and scream into it. Another option is to sit in your car, when you aren't driving it, and scream at the top of your lungs. Just the act and release of doing this can reduce your feelings of anger.

    Music

    • If you are feeling angry, listen to music. When choosing music, make sure it's something that is either soothing, or something upbeat that you love and enjoy. Music can have a powerful impact on mood and feeling. To get out of an angry spell, sit back and listen to some tunes.

    Write It Down

    • Write down your feelings in a journal. Writing things down can release the anger that you're holding in. Also, if you are angry at someone in particular, you can write him a letter that you never send. Be sure to hide your journal in a safe place.
