How to Cure Visual Perception Problems

A child learns visual perception until they become an adult. When the child does not choose to use their full vision abilities, their vision can lack acuity, coordination between the eyes and eye convergence upon a focus. Fortunately, the vision that failed to develop during the first opportunity, can be relearned. Corrective lenses and visual exercises work for most optometrist's patients.

Find an optometrist who knows vision therapy. Optometrists work with lenses and exercises, rather than surgery like opthamologists. Since vision therapy is not extraordinary, you can ask your optometrist. If they do not give the therapy, they might be able to recommend another doctor.

Have your eyes examined. First, you need to know the exact perception problem. Undergo an examination from an optometrist to find whether you have less than 20/20 visual acuity, one eye does more work than another or both eyes aim inward or outward. Simple lazy eye, an eye that drifts, can also be the case.

Take the prescribed lenses and wear them regularly. The main thing you do to relearn good vision is see correctly regularly by using corrective lenses. Your doctor's prescription glasses or contact lenses force you to see with the right focus and hold both eyes attentive on the object or person you are viewing. Consistent corrected sight improves visiual perception daily.

Choose the vision exercises the doctor recommends. Your doctor can offer vision therapy exercises designed for your individual perceptual problem. The doctor selects based upon the seriousness of the problem and the particular condition, such as strabismus, amblyopia or myopia. Choose the exercise best for your problem that you can fit in your life.

Visit the doctors office on scheduled days to practice vision exercises. Once or twice a week you come to the doctor's office where the doctor, or an aid, guides you thorugh your vision exercises. During exercise, you practice good focus and full use of the eye muscles, with the eyes aligned together. A balance beam focus exercise raises the patient's commitment to good vision by making strong focus necessary for balance. Or, you practice the particular skill that did not fully develop. You can use an eye patch to exercise the lazy eye. Over time, you progress in your development of good visual perception.

Do your homework exercises. Your doctor might suggest homework to reinforce the learning achieved during doctor's visits. Excerise your eyes for 30 minutes to 1 hour at home, once to twice each week.
