Side Effects of Benzodiazapines
Benzodiazepines are a class of drugs that work by depressing the central nervous system. The most commonly prescribed benzodiazepines or "benzos" are Valium, Xanax, Klonopin and Ativan. They are primarily prescribed are for anxiety, panic attacks, acute stress and sleep problems. They can seem like a miracle drug if you have any of these health issues, but they also have the potential for some nasty side effects.-

Combining Benzodiazepines

Because benzos cause slowing of brain function they should not be used with any other substance that has a similar effect---such as alcohol, opiates or pain medication---unless under the supervision of your doctor. Mixing Benzos and other sedating central nervous system drugs has been known to be fatal.
Pregnancy and Benzo Use

Care should be taken if you are pregnant and using benzos because there is the possibility of your baby being born with birth defects or addicted to Benzos. Additionally, care should be taken if taking benzodiazepines while breast feeding as this can cause low infant weight and slow development.

According to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, daily use of benzos can cause hostility, irritability, amnesia, or vivid and disturbing dreams.
Other Common Side Effects

Using benzodiazepines can sometimes can cause headaches, depression, confusion, slow motor skills, decreased respiratory function, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation.
