Mbti Characteristics

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assesses an individual's preference for certain functions. The theory, based on psychologist Carl Jung's work on archetypes, states that differences on four dimensions of temperament guide behavior.
  1. Introvert versus Extrovert

    • Introverts recover energy through solitude, having plenty of time and space to themselves. Extroverts become energized by socialization and may find extended periods of alone time exhausting.

    Intuitive versus Sensing

    • Intuitive types prefer to focus on what could be, rather than on concrete facts, which may result in missing crucial details in the present. Sensing types trust fact and experience, but may miss intuitive cues.

    Thinking versus Feeling

    • Thinking types prefer to make choices based on impersonal factors and logic, but may be perceived as hard-hearted. Feeling types allow personal values and emotions to impact and guide their decision-making, but may err by failing to consider facts.

    Judging versus Perceiving

    • This dimension refers to a preference for closure or keeping options open. Judging types prefer decisions made, structured tasks and deadlines, whereas perceiving types feel uneasy once a choice is made and long for flexibility.

    Temperament Types

    • Temperament type can be identified for everyone using these four dimensions. These preferences indicate the degree to which someone favors one side or the other, but are not mutually exclusive characteristics.
