Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental health condition characterized by a feeling of superiority. Individuals with this disorder often have low self-esteem and are easily upset by an criticism. Individuals with narcissistic personality disorder may have other conditions along with the disorder, and many will require intensive therapy to recover from the disorder.

    • Narcissistic personality disorder is a rare condition that affects less than 1% of the U.S. population. According to the Mayo Clinic, men are more likely to be affected than women, and the onset of symptoms usually occurs during the early adult years.

    • Individuals with narcissistic personality disorder often have issues with alcohol or drug abuse. Some may experience depression, eating disorders and have difficulties functioning in school or in the workplace. In addition, some may have suicidal tendencies.
