Rage in Borderline Personality Disorder
Borderline personality disorder is the inability to control one's emotions. Sufferers can shift moods quickly, and oftentimes the moods can become crippling. Symptoms can include impulsiveness, paranoia and rage. They can come without warning or explanation, and at times the intensity of such emotions can be frightening to loved ones. If someone in your life exhibits these signs, seek professional help immediately. Treatment can make a difference.-
Anger
-
Anger can escalate to a point of becoming confrontational. Pent-up emotions overflow, robbing the BPD sufferer of the ability to control his actions.
Rage
-
Rage can be triggered by the smallest of reasons. The person with BPD may become overwhelmed with intense anger and respond with yelling and screaming, and she may not even be aware of the fact that she has become enraged.
Violence
-
For a BPD sufferer who experiences rage, the symptoms can escalate into violence, upon others or himself, through self-mutilation or even suicide.
Abuse
-
Rage associated with BPD can often evoke behaviors such as scratching, spitting or slapping.
Irrational Thoughts
-
People with BPD who experience symptoms of rage often fantasize about harming others, even if they never follow through. In a sense, it is their way of coping with their emotions.
