Stress Reliever Games
Stress is prevalent in our society, particularly given the economy 2011. Finances, relationships and work are all common sources of stress. In addition to the negative emotions stress causes, there can also be physical effects from significant and prolonged stress. Stress may not always be preventable but there are ways to effectively manage and reduce stress through activities and games.-
Strategy Games
-
Strategy games require concentration and planning. They include such games as checkers, chess, card games and Battleship. Due to the concentration required to compete in strategy games, players are less likely to be thinking about their problems. Any game that distracts players from worry is an appropriate choice. However, avoid games that make you extremely competitive which can increase stress levels.
Fun Games
-
Laughter cures many ails. Getting together with family or friends while playing games is an effective way to reduce stress. Board games, such as Mad Gabs or Taboo, and video games are examples of fun games that can make you laugh. Get up and moving with a PlayStation or Wii game such as Wii Sports or Tiger Woods Golf or play a game of charades.
Word or Puzzle Games
-
Word and puzzle games can be played almost anywhere. They are inexpensive and you can play alone. Crossword puzzles, word finds and sudoku are examples of puzzle games. These games also require concentration which reduces worry. There are a variety of puzzle books available at your local convenience or grocery store. Games can be downloaded on your computer for free or a low cost. There are also apps available for smart phones and tablet computers.
Outdoor Games
-
Getting outside and breathing the fresh air is a stress reducer. Physical activity has also been shown to reduce stress. If you are alone, play a game of basketball. Use an empty carboard box if you do not have a goal, and see how many shots you can make in a row. Grab a friend and play a game together. You can play golf alone or with a friend. Play tag with your children. Any outdoor game that you enjoy and does not induce stress from competition can be used to reduce stress.
