Wellbutrin Side Effects on Children
Wellbutrin or Zyban (brand names for bupropion) is given to children for clinical depression or for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It is used only if other drugs have failed. Not much is known about mild side effects of anyone below the age of 18, but serious side effects are known. If your child experiences these symptoms, contact your doctor or pediatrician immediately.-
Worsening Depression
-
The child will become more withdrawn and not be interested in just about anything. They may have more mood swings and sleep problems as well.
Seizures
-
This is usually due to an allergic reaction. Make sure the child is in an area where he can't hurt himself during the grip of a seizure and call an ambulance.
Dizziness
-
If the child has problems being able to stand up and walk, call the doctor. It may be all that is needed is a reduction in the dosage.
Headache
-
This persistent headache tends to be on both sides of the head and can include nausea and dizziness.
Digestive Problems
-
Some children may get diarrhea and some children may become constipation.
