Talk to a psychologist who specializes in counseling. Psychology has a variety of uses, from talking about problems (counseling) to helping people change their behavior. The appropriate psychologist for a fear of flying is a counselor rather than a behavioral psychologist.

Look at online counseling options. The system called "Soar" provides DVDs and information on the fear of flying and how to conquer it.

Read a self-help book. As this is an anonymous way to get help, it appeals to those who are embarrassed by their fear. You might also find a book that comes with a kit including such items as a journal or workbook.

Attend a fear of flying program. According to USA Today, Fear of Flying Clinic and Fear Takes Flight are two of the available programs. These are designed by pilots and therapists to help conquer fear over time. They include learning deep-breathing techniques and step programs to gradually reduce the fear a little at a time.

Listen to self-help audio cds or watch the self-help videos. There are audio cds and videos available that are similar to the self-help books due to the anonymity, but they take less time and allow listening in the car or watching in comfort. Fear of flying kits have cds or audio tapes in them, along with books. There are videos, such as "Flying in the Comfort Zone: Overcoming Your Fear of Flying" that are watched and help overcome the fear of flying with audio and visual stimulation.
