Klonopin is a member of the benzodiazepine drug family. Its tranquilizing effect slows the central nervous system, and doctors often prescribe it to treat seizures and panic attacks.
Effects

Klonopin has numerous side effects, most commonly drowsiness, dizziness, upper respiratory tract infections, irritability and tiredness. Children can experience hyperactivity and drooling along with behavioral changes.
Serious Side Effects

Although unusual in most people, depression, insomnia, suicidal thoughts and mood changes can occur. Some may experience hostility, irritability, nervousness and even weight gain.

Some people experience severe allergic reactions to this drug, such as difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, sores in the mouth, rash or yellowing of the skin. Less common side effects are abnormal eye movements, loss of voice, headache and hallucinations.
Warning

Women who intend to become or are pregnant should avoid taking Klonopin. Furthermore, drug interaction with alcohol, antidepressants, antipsychotic meds, antibiotics and barbiturates should be avoided. Withdrawal symptoms can occur when medication is stopped abruptly.
