How to Keep Yourself Grounded
In this fast-paced and ever-changing society, learning to keep yourself grounded is an essential element in reducing stress levels and increasing quality of life. Don't let a promotion give you a big head, or an unexpected layoff send you into a tailspin of self doubt. Stay grounded by doing some internal work and forming a few solid external habits. When you cultivate a stable and rich internal life, you can remain humble while being successful and maintain a positive self-image when experiencing the setbacks and rejections that are a normal part of life.Things You'll Need

1
Take time every day to pray, meditate or enjoy quiet solitude. Give yourself as much time as you need, preferably before your work day begins. Write in a journal if it helps you focus and organize your thoughts and feelings.
-
2
Take risks. Do not try to cover up your mistakes, but admit them quickly and try to learn from them. Ask for help when you need it.
-
3
Create 3-by-5 cards to help guide you through potential rough spots in life. Write a favorite perspective-enhancing quote, mantra or scripture on each card and carry them in your purse or briefcase. Pull them out when you start to struggle with either pride or self-doubt, and read as many as it takes to get your feet back on the ground.
-
4
Create achievable, measurable goals for yourself. Schedule daily corresponding tasks, so that regardless of your mood, your actions move your forward one steady step at a time.
-
5
Surround yourself with family members and friends who love you unconditionally, yet are not afraid to be honest about your weaknesses. Ask them for regular feedback on how you behave in relationships, how well you follow through on promises and how aggressively you move toward your dreams.
