Activities for Dealing with Negative Emotions

Negative emotions are not only a drag but also unhealthy. Negative emotions cause stress, which can lead to other health problems such as high blood pressure. If you find yourself constantly in a bad mood or thinking negative thoughts, then engage in some activities that can help turn those bad feelings into positive emotions.
  1. Exercise

    • Exercising is a constructive and healthy way to relieve the stress associated with negative emotions. Instead of venting your anger or frustration by yelling, for example, release that negative energy by channeling your energy toward an exercise routine such as running, swimming or weight lifting. Aerobic exercise is preferable to anaerobic exercises because it more-significantly lowers stress-producing chemicals, but either type of exercise is still a better alternative to yelling.

    Meditation

    • Meditation will help calm your nerves and allow you to forget about the negative emotions you once had. Meditation is a true mind and body experience. Although you can use hundreds of different methods to meditate, the most basic way is to just close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing. To meditate, sit Indian style with your back straight. Posture is important when meditating. Close your eyes, open your palms and hold your arms at your sides. Inhale deeply through your mouth, hold for about two seconds then exhale slowly through your nose. Do this for at least 30 minutes.

    Reading

    • If you have negative emotions such as jealousy, rage or loneliness, then read a book to help your mind and body relax. Whether its a thrilling science fiction novel or a scientific journal, read something that interests you and lets you escape from the negativity of those bad emotions. Reading itself will help mollify negative emotions, but the content of what you read may also help put your negative emotions into perspective.

    Kite Flying

    • Kite flying can help you deal with negative emotions in many ways. First, you have to be outside to fly a kite, and the outdoors is a proven natural remedy for dealing with negative emotions. Second, kite flying is a simple yet challenging way for you to do something constructive and build confidence in yourself. Third, it is a welcome distraction from negative emotions. Like other hobbies, kite flying will give you a focal point toward which you can turn your negative emotions into positive energy.
