Instructions

    • 1

Avoid negative self-talk. Everyone makes mistakes and no one does everything with perfection. When a person puts himself down, or speaks poorly about his abilities with others, he reinforces a pessimistic, negative mentality; which in turn, can hinder one's abilities and affect one's self-image.

    • 2

Keep a positive focus. Instead of simply trying not to criticize yourself in a negative way, keep your focus positive, optimistic and constructive. Instead of saying, "I'll never be able to do this right" or "I'm terrible at this," for example, try reminding yourself, "practice makes perfect" or recall a time you accomplished something particularly challenging.

    • 3

Speak and think in affirmatives. Instead of saying, for example, "I can't do this right," say "I will learn how to do this" or "I would like to become better at this." By purposely speaking and thinking in an affirmative manner, you will quell feelings of defeat and failure.

    • 4

Give yourself a pep talk. Remind yourself of your past accomplishments, the things in your life that you're grateful for and the skills you possess.

    • 5

Maintain good posture. Keep your shoulders back, head high, and back straight. You'll not only appear more confident to others, you'll feel more alert and enthused.

    • 6

Exercise; not only will exercise keep your body in shape and improve your physique, it will also help you to feel healthier and more energetic.

    • 7

Make daily or weekly lists of short-term goals. The list will help you to stay on-task and remember important things to do, which will help you to increase your productivity. Cross-off each goal as you accomplish it. Doing so will remind you of your accomplishments and capabilities.
