How to Break Routines
A normal, daily routine can provide a sense of stability and security. Whether in the realm of relationships, education, career or home life, the practice of always knowing what you're going to do and when often provides a foundation for optimum productivity. However, rigidly sticking to these routines every day can stifle creativity and spontaneity, two aspects that many find essential for true happiness. While breaking routines might seem difficult at first, with practice, incorporating innovative and fresh ideas into everyday life will bring new habits, hobbies and a greater sense of freedom and joy.Instructions

1
Think about your old patterns. Which ones you would like to keep, and which ones you would like to change? Imagine what you want your day to look like as you set your alarm for the following day.
-
2
Start off your day in a new way. For example, if the first thing you do in the morning is hitting the snooze button until you have little time left before work or school, perhaps replace this activity with a contemplative walk or jog or a good talk with a neighbor or family member.
-
3
Make time for something new in your life at least a few times a week. Think of something you've always wanted to do but felt you never had the ability or enough time. Make time for that activity whether it be a theater or yoga class, a weekend camping trip with a partner or a good book you just never got around to reading.
-
4
Stop to contemplate the reasons why you find yourself falling back into an old pattern or routine. Consider whether you're doing it because it's beneficial and productive or if you're doing it out of habit. If the answer is the latter, you then have the power to decide to do something else.

5
Notice how these new activities positively or negatively affect your life, and decide which patterns and routines work best for you.
