How to Mentally Renew Your Mind

Whether you are burned out from a long week of work or exhausted from writing college essays, taking a break to renew your mind helps you feel better. Stress can seem overwhelming, but taking steps to relax and refresh your mind helps you deal with worry, anxiety and burnout. Do not feel guilty about taking a few minutes to take care of yourself; taking short breaks prepares you to work more productively and helps prevent mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety.

Instructions

    • 1

Exercise. Going for a walk, riding a bike or doing yoga are activities that help clear your mind and give you more energy. Exercise also reduces the risk of depression and releases stress.

    • 2

Go outside. Spending time outside improves your attention span, clears your head and reduces stress.

    • 3

Focus on something positive or relaxing. For example, if your mind begins to follow an exhausting or stressful pattern of thought, distract yourself with an inspiring quote or a photograph of loved ones.

    • 4

Move to a new location. For example, take a break from the library and study in the coffee shop, or move from your kitchen table to the front porch. Make sure you select a site that is calm and free of distractions.
